Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

This is an onsite role located in the Metro Atlanta Area (Sandy Springs). This not a remote role and does require in-office presence.

The NOC Technician supports Accelecom’s statewide fiber and IP network by monitoring,

troubleshooting, and coordinating restoration activities in a 24x7 environment. This role handles network

surveillance, ticket management, and coordination with SMC, field teams, last-mile providers, LECs, and

engineering. The position requires strong technical troubleshooting skills, the ability to work under

pressure, and professionalism when interacting with customers and partners.

We are seeking an experienced Telecom Network Operations Center (NOC) Technician to join our team. This role requires deep, hands-on knowledge of telecommunications networks, monitoring tools, troubleshooting methodologies, and carrier-grade environments.

Important: This is strictly a Telecom NOC position.
Only candidates with relevant telecom NOC experience will be considered.

Job requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitor network health using SolarWinds, PRTG, Assure1, and related EMS/NMS systems.

• Respond to customer calls, emails, tickets, and escalations professionally and promptly.

• Identify and troubleshoot issues across fiber, Ethernet transport, optical systems, and IP layers.

• Analyze latency, jitter, packet loss, routing behavior, and performance symptoms affecting service.

• Interpret OTDR traces, light-level readings, and optical budgets, and coordinate fiber-related repairs.

• Work with LECs, last-mile providers, partner carriers, and field technicians on testing, loopbacks,

dispatching, and service restoration.

• Create, update, escalate, and resolve trouble tickets using systems such as ServiceNow, Remedy.

• Support network maintenance events, impact assessments, and MOP procedures.

• Assist in collecting performance data, usage metrics, audit logs, and operational reporting.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Strong understanding of OSI Layers 1 through 3 with hands-on troubleshooting in fiber, Ethernet, and

IP networks.

• Understanding of OSPF and BGP fundamentals including adjacency issues, path changes, and prefix

validation.

• Ability to interpret routing tables, interface counters, ARP tables, MAC tables, syslog events, and

device alarms.

• Ability to troubleshoot DHCP, DNS, MTU/MSS issues, IPv4/IPv6 behavior, and basic network security

symptoms such as ACL misconfigurations or access blocks.

• Understanding of Ethernet technologies including VLANs, QinQ, LAG/LACP, QoS/CoS, CIR/EIR,

shaping, and policing.

• Ability to identify Spanning Tree events, broadcast storms, MAC flapping, and other L2 anomalies.

• Experience validating carrier Ethernet services including service activation testing and MEF-aligned

procedures.

• Ability to read and analyze OTDR traces, splice points, reflections, attenuation, and physical-layer

issues.

• Understanding of SMF and MMF fiber types, connector types, and APC versus UPC usage.

• Experience with SolarWinds, PRTG, Assure1, Netcool, or similar monitoring platforms.

• Ability to perform basic packet capture analysis using Wireshark or tcp dump.

• Ability to review SNMP traps, telemetry data, and system logs for event correlation and diagnosis.

• Participate in major incident calls and follow incident management processes.

• Provide clear and timely updates to customers, internal teams, and leadership during network impacting

events.

• Maintain accurate documentation including circuit details, fiber records, procedures, and diagrams.

• Multitask effectively across alarms, tickets, communications, and troubleshooting in a fast-paced

environment.

• Maintain professionalism and customer focus during escalations and outages.

CERTIFICATIONS (Preferred)

Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, MEF, or equivalent industry certifications.

PHYSICAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to sit for extended periods.

• Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts in a 24x7 network operations

environment.

• Willingness to work extended hours during major outages, fiber cuts, or critical events.
