Network Engineer

Job description

The Network Engineer develops and maintains functional and secure networks, working directly with our Engineering team to design, implement and manage solutions. To be successful, the Network Engineer should have excellent problem-solving skills and a thorough knowledge of network administration and architecture. The Network Engineer must possess an expert level knowledge of TCP/IP networking, LAN/WAN including dynamic routing protocols, and Layer 2 ethernet protocols. Significant experience and depth of knowledge in Juniper Routing and Switching design and implementation is strongly preferred.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete large-scale projects such as network design and installation, integration of new solutions into existing systems, and development of new technical processes in a Service Provider environment
  • Work with other Engineers to design and deploy networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
  • Configure and install software, servers, routers, and other network devices
  • Monitor network performance and integrity
  • Resolve escalated network performance/security issues
  • Provide instruction as needed to other team members
  • Communicate openly with team members to meet team goals and improve processes and practices
  • Maintain and produce complete technical documentation
  • Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity, and scalability
  • Review and recommend new products and technologies to Accelecom that may improve customer, and core network performance and reliability
  • Participate in an on-call schedule with other engineers for escalation
  • Assist internal TTU engineers as needed with active testing / turn up

Job requirements

  • Minimum 7 years industry-related experience as a Network Engineer, Senior Network Engineer or equivalent
  • Expert level understanding in Optical Networking (OTN, DWDM, CWDM, etc)
  • Expert level understanding of TCP/IP (v4 and v6), routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, etc), and Ethernet protocols (MPLS, G.8032, etc)
  • Expert level networking using the following platforms:
    • Juniper, Fujitsu, RAD, Optelian/DZS, Ciena, ADVA
  • Bachelor’s degree in work related study is preferred
  • Professional certifications are preferred (e.g. , JNCIA, JNCIE, CCNA)
  • Solid background in network administration, architecture, deployment, and maintenance
  • Deep understanding of access control models, firewalls, and network security
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. Assure1, Observium, WireShark)
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, Alianza, etc)
  • Experience with DR Planning and testing
